
Art of Improv
A series curated by composers Bill Gilliam and Eugene Martynec launched in 2023 presenting many Canadian and international improvisors.
Their goal of this series is to invite and present composers and performers with distinctive approaches to improvisation for an evening of spontaneous and innovative collaboration.
The Art of Improv series was reviewed in Toronto’s music magazine theWholeNote in Sept 2025.
Past shows included artists such as pianist Marilyn Lerner, suling flute player Andrew Timar, cellist Cheryl Ockrant, guitarist Mark Gane, pianist Bob Wiseman, Christine Duncan & The Element Choir, percussionists Germaine Liu & Mark Zurawinski, future proof: Bea Labikova (saxes) & Raphael Roter (percussion), John Gzowski (guitar) & Julia Aplin (dance), Gayle Young (Amaranth), cellists Margaret Maria & Kye Marshall, Bill McBirnie (fute), Michael Palumbo (modular synths), Rod Campbell (voice, trumpet), Jenna Geen (vocalist & poet), Penn Kemp (performer), Kayla Milmine (sax), Ambrose Pottie (drums), Bruce Cassidy (Electronic Valve Instrument).
Our next show in November 15th at Annette Studios in Toronto will feature the avante garde cellist Julia Biłwat from Germany and pianist Roman Stolyar.
